Dagmar Timmann

The motor laboratory in Essen is addressing the problem of coordination and learning in motoric and cognitive domains from the clinical perspective by studying the behavior of patients with pathologies involving the cerebellum. The lab is involved in work with patients with vascular strokes, tumor resections and degenerative cerebellar Ataxias. They are using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to exactly pinpoint neural damage and relate this structural information to behavioral markers, thereby the functions of different parts of the cerebellum. Dr. Timmann and her colleagues are also using functional MRI to study the workings of human cerebellar cortex and deep nuclei in vivo.
