The dynamic nature of memories and its clinical implication
| 2010-04-26 | Room: Ae 406 |
For over a century, it has been known that new memories initially exist in an unstable state and then stabilize/consolidate in the brain over time. It was widely assumed that once a memory was consolidated it remained fixed forever. This later assumption has been challenged by many studies showing that amnesia can be induced in consolidated memories if they were fist reactivated, across species, amnesic agents, and paradigms. This re-stabilization process is called now called reconsolidation. Since these initial studies, there have been many insights into the mechanisms and nature of this phenomenon. My talk will highlight some of the advances in this field. Host: S. Kushner
